WELCOME parents, students and staff to another fun-filled and academically stimulating year at Hilltop Middle School.  We are very excited to have you back or to welcome you to our Hilltop family.

The Hilltop Middle School Counseling Center is located in room 203 across from the main office.  Our counseling team is comprised of 3 counselors who align with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards addressing the academic, social and emotional needs of our students.  Please note the counselor breakdown is based on student’s last name.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Our SDSU Compact for Success Fieldtrip is coming up on Saturday, October 27, 2018.  This event is only for 7th graders and their guardians.  It will be a great day filled with information that will help students along the path to a university.  It is MANDATORY to arrive with a parent/guardian over the age of 18.  Please feel free to pick up an application in the counseling center.  We are now accepting applications for this wonderful event!

7TH GRADE INFORMATION for summer school
Students who receive an “F” in core classes (for semester 1 and 2 of 7th grade) should fill out an application for summer school (in the counseling center) to recover that credit.  Parents must fill out application and return to the counseling center immediately for placement for summer school.

Semester 2 2018
As the end of the school year comes to an end, the counseling center is busy with registration and promotion.   Here are a couple of reminders for the end of school year:
·          Please remember that semester grades are very important for middle school promotion requirements.  Students must pass all courses with a “D” or higher, have 21 credits in order to be eligible for the promotion certificate. 
·          Summer school is offered to current 7th grade students who received an F in a core subject for semester 1 and semester 2 grades.
·         Summer school dates:  
  June 11-June 29th, 2018
   8:00-1:30 PM

Semester 2, Quarter 3—2018
Many things are circulating in the counseling center.  We are meeting with our students creating Academic Improvement Plans, following up on student progress and signing up 8th grade students for available credit recovery.  The calendars for credit recovery are in the counseling center.  Please take note that our progress report grades are coming out on February 23, 2018.  Please remember that semester grades are very important for middle school promotion requirements.  Students must pass all courses with a “D” or higher, have 21 credits in order to be eligible for the promotion certificate.

WHO:  8th grade students who received an “F” first semester in these subjects

WHAT and WHY:  Students re-take course to receive credit.  Students must have a “D” or higher to pass course and attend 40 hours of seat time and 20 hours of independent study work.

IMPORTANT:  After a two-hour absence, your child will dropped from Credit Recovery and will be ineligible for promotion.
